Grand Strand Highlights

This sunset photograph was taken six miles north of Myrtle Beach.

F Y I - The naming of Myrtle Beach and the Grand Strand holds historical significance deeply rooted in the region's natural beauty. Legend has it that Myrtle Beach earned its name from the wax myrtle shrubs that grow abundantly along the coast. These fragrant shrubs, with their glossy green leaves and aromatic scent, are native to the area and played a pivotal role in the early days of settlement. As for the term "Grand Strand," it was popularized in the early 20th century to highlight a 60-mile stretch of the expansive pristine sandy beaches located along the eastern shores of South Carolina. The name captures the grandeur and allure of the picturesque shoreline that has since become an iconic destination.

Both names, Myrtle Beach and the Grand Strand, embody the rich history and natural splendor that have drawn visitors to this coastal haven for centuries, creating a legacy that extends from the maritime forests to the sun-soaked shores

Pier Shadows

As the first light of dawn painted the sky in soft pastels, the wooden pier at Myrtle Beach State Park stood silently, Its weathered planks casting long, dark shadows across the sandy shore. The rhythmic sound of waves lapping against the pilings created a soothing melody, harmonizing with the distant cry of seagulls. The sun, a fiery orb on the horizon, gradually emerged, sending golden shafts of light dancing across the water. As the sun rose higher, the shadows of the pier slowly retreated, blending into the bustling beach scene that would soon unfold, yet leaving behind a sense of tranquility and anticipation for the day ahead.
